I AM MOVING TO GHANA!

Yes, you read that correctly – I have decided to move to Ghana for a few months. By the time you read this post, I will be in Ghana – probably enjoying a plate of Waakye or enjoying my 5th round of FanYogo. As part of my degree at Drexel University, I am enrolled in a 5 year program which involves completing three 6-month co-ops (internships). I have completed two so far at SAP and Google and for my third and final co-op, I have decided to split it into two. For the first part of my co-op, I will be serving as a Spring Marketing Fellow for a non-profit called Tarkwa Breman based in Western Region, Ghana. After my spring internship, I will return to the States and head to Dallas, Texas for a Technology Consulting internship.

I decided to pursue this opportunity in Ghana because I have a keen interest in the non-profit sector and because part of my long-term career goals is to contribute to education, healthcare, and technology in Ghana. Hence, the reason why all of my internship opportunities have been within the technology industry and most of my volunteering efforts have been focused on education and healthcare in developing nations.

If you follow my blog, you know that all of my decisions are very strategic in nature. Returning to Ghana, I could have decided to work for a for-profit organization and earn really good money but after having internships in Corporate America ever since I was a sophomore in high school, I want to take this opportunity to actually work for a non-profit on the ground instead of contributing remotely (like I have been doing for several years) and I am extremely excited to embark on this journey in my homeland.

You can read more about Tarkwa Breman here. Please keep me in your prayers as I embark on this journey and stay tuned for updates on my experience in Ghana!

A huge thank you to the Office of International Programs and the Steinbright Career Development Center at Drexel University for funding my trip.

Stay adventurous, dear friends, and always remember to stay golden. All ways, always.

Sincerely,

Samuella
