At this point I believe we can all agree that social media can be a powerful tool if used properly. I came across Kess Kravings’ Instagram page a couple of years ago when a friend of mine tagged me in one of her “unconventional” pictures. In this specific picture, she was serving a popular Ghanaian dish; Palm Nut Soup with Rice Balls, in a martini glass with the rice as a garnishment. When I first saw the picture, I imagined what my Ghanaian uncles would think if I presented this dish to them and laughed it off.

I started to follow Kess a few days later because prior to her I had never seen Ghanaian dishes being plated that way and being a Foodie, I was intrigued. A few years later, Kess is now one of my biggest role models due to her innovation and originality with African cuisine. (Sounds like a title of an award!)

Once I returned to the States after my spring internship in Ghana, I came to Dallas for my summer internship and I immediately reached out to Kess and told her I wanted to meet her. She invited me over and I was really thrilled about the fact that I was finally getting a chance to taste one of her dishes. To my surprise, Kess made a 5-course meal PLUS her signature chips and light soup shooters. After the wonderful meal, we enjoyed a good movie and I ended up not leaving her house until well after midnight! Can you imagine? Someone that I had never met before in my life invited me over her house and fed me as if she’s known me for YEARS.

Shout out to God and Instagram for connecting us. Sister Kess, thank you for your hospitality. You are amazing and so incredibly talented.

Make sure to follow her and support all of her businesses!
